The Louvre in the last rays of the day

Although many people think that the modern glass pyramid in the centre disfigures the Louvre, I do not agree with them. It’s like the highlight which highlights the Louvre from the rest of French chateaux. It seems to connect the past and the present. And certainly it pleases the photographers! I almost have not seen pictures of the louvre without the pyramid.

Amazing Fact:

The Louvre has 8.5 million visitors a year and is the most visited museum in the world!

Pirate ship

Pirate ship holds of which are full of gold! Childish dreams come true in Disneyland. From the time I was a little kid, I was dreaming about going to Disneyland, but the first time I did it I was 32. When I went there I was not really hoping for something special and was quite skeptical. But I was wrong. Disneyland allowed me to feel like a kid again! It is a great place both for adult and children.

Amazing Fact:

In 2012 Paris Disneyland had about 15.5 million visitors compared to 8.4 million for Paris’ Louvre museum and 6.6 million for the Eiffel Tower.

The Church of the Holy Trinity in Chernihov

Chernihov is one of the Old Slavonic capitals and it is famous for its churches. In ancient times it was one of the largest cities in Kievan Russia. Now Chernihov is a small quiet country town with beautiful churches, interesting museums, Antonievi caves and the picturesque nature around. Here it is a leisurely life. I relate the most pleasant memories with Chernihov.

Аmazing Fact:

The Church of the Holy Trinity was built in 1695. It was building for almost 17 years.

Dramatic winter sunset

Winter sunset over Kiev. It is a view of the residential area “Obolon”. In order to make this shot I didn’t have to go or climb somewhere. It’s just the view from my window. One day, looking out of the window I saw the unusual lighting of the lowering sun in the clouds and could not resist taking the picture.

Bologna towers at night

It was primarily prestigious to have your own tower in medieval Bologna. The higher and bigger the tower was, the richer was its owner. What is it for and what to do with it, didn’t matter at all. In 12-13 centuries, Bologna had 80-100 towers, according to some sources. Now the city has less than 20 towers.

On this photo you can see two most famous towers in Bologna. The higher one is Azinelli (97 m), and the lower one is Garizenda (48 m). As you can see the two towers are inclined. They are supported by special cables strung around them from collapsing.

You can climb the top of the Azinelli – it is the best observation deck overlooking the city. Do not miss the chance to see whole Bologna from the top!

Amazing fact:

Bologna is the culinary capital of Italy.

The Sicilian coast

I took this shot in the resort town of Taormina. It was a very hot day. The temperature was over 45 °C. To walk around and make photos was VERY hard. I wanted to give up and quickly go swimming in the sea. Due to the fact that the city is located high on the mountains you have to use cable car in order to get to the beach. If you carefully look at the picture you can find it. Taormina is located high in the mountains and it offers great views of the coastline and mount Etna. In addition, there are many historical attractions in this town, such as:  the ancient Greek theatre, the ancient churches, the ruins of the temples. If you’re looking for a truly stunning and very romantic place in Sicily this wonderland is your answer.

Amazing Fact:

Taormina has an ancient theatre which is one of the most celebrated ruins in Sicily. This theatre offers best views of the Mount Etna.

Welcome to the ranch!

Bulldog-cowboy welcomes you to our ranch!

This photo was taken spontaneously while I was driving the car in the neighbourhood of Kiev. I wasn’t even going to take photos. I had other affairs. This event proves the rule – you never know where a good shot expects you. Always take your camera with you in order not to miss great shots!

Amazing Fact:

The largest Ranch in the world is actually in Australia. The Anna Creek ranch is 5.8 Million Acres (Larger than Israel).

Valley of the Temples

Valley of the Temples is all what left from the ancient city of Agrigento. It was a great and rich city. It was founded by the Greeks around 580 BC. Now only few ruined temples are left from Agrigento. And nothing else but memories… What seemed eternal and indestructible to the ancient people now it is almost disappeared. I think everything that seems now commonplace and eternal sooner or later will go into oblivion. And our future descendants will dig the ground and imagine how we lived – the people of the XXI century.

The photo shows one of the best preserved ancient temples – the temple of the Concordia – one of the best preserved Doric temples in the world. So the guides tell you. Although historians are not sure about this temple.

Amazing fact:

Much of ancient Agrakas still remains to be excavated! Many mysteries are still waiting to be discovered…

Divine light

It was a gloomy and cloudy day. Walking around the city, we decided to climb the highest tower in Bologna. Bologna is a unique city that managed to maintain its antiquity. From the very top of the tower we saw a spectacular view. Unfortunately the clouds were so gloomy that I wasn’t even hoping to make a slightly interesting shot. But at the same time, I didn’t have another chance to do it as we were leaving Bologna the next day. And suddenly, a miracle happened – the clouds dispersed and the divine light came pouring down from the top. At such moments, I begin to believe in divine miracles!

Amazing fact:

Bologna  is home to the oldest university in the world, University of Bologna. It was founded in 1088.

Sunset over the river Selangor in Malaysia

Peaceful sunset on the river. In fact, it wasn’t so peaceful at all. It was a terrible shot. A huge pile of mosquitoes attacked me and they bit me badly as well. I quickly took a couple of shots and ran away, hoping that mosquitoes were not malarial  :)).   I can’t even close imagine how people live on this river and have lived hundreds of years before us. After all, there was not even mosquito repellent before. But a lot of people live in houses on stilts on the river for hundreds of years and make money with fishing. It remains a mystery to me how they manage to get along with these mosquitoes. And it used to be a home to crocodiles before!

Amazing Fact:

Only female mosquitoes bite humans and animals. Males feed on flower nectar.

Amsterdam airport Schiphol

I love Amsterdam airport (Schiphol). In addition to the excellent service and design, it has a great observation platform from which you can watch the functioning of the airport. In other countries, it is absolutely forbidden. But here a lot of people can personally observe everything. You will be surprised by the fact how many people are involved in the process of airport so we could fly safely. I have never even thought before how it is complicated and well organized. Here you can stand for hours watching the process of loading of aircrafts and other technological processes taking place here. I wish other countries and airports have adopted a similar idea.

Amazing Fact:

Schiphol is ranking as Europe’s 4th busiest and the world’s 16th busiest by total passenger traffic in 2012. It also ranks as the world’s 5th busiest by international passenger traffic.

View of the Florence

We were walking all day around Florence, and by the end of the day by chance entered this observation point. The fact that this is the best point for taking photos of Florence was confirmed  by the presence of many photographers with tripods. And I was one of them! I was very lucky with the weather conditions – very cute little clouds completed the panoramic view of Florence. On this image you can see almost all the major attractions of Florence. I am very satisfied with this shot and consider it one of the best works of mine.

On this photo you can see:
– At the centre of the photo you can see the Duomo (Florence’s most famous Cathedral).
– Slightly to the left there is a tower of the castle Palazzo Vecchio.
– Along the left side of the river the very first bridge is Ponte Vecchio.

Amazing Fact:

Standard Italian language that the entire country uses to this day comes from the Florentine dialect.

Maldivian sunrise

Calm sunrise in the Maldives. The sea is quiet and the fish are not scared away by the screaming and floating tourists yet. Fish come very close to the shore searching for food. The water is so transparent that they are clearly visible. Among the fish coming close to the shore early in the morning, sometimes I even saw small reef sharks. Despite their intimidating appearance the sharks are safe for humans.

In the Maldives, every sunset and sunrise is great because of the huge and beautiful clouds. The damp climate and evaporation give photographers a chance to get another masterpiece.

Amazing Fact:

Maldives is the lowest country in the world. Its ground level is averaged at 1.6 meters.

Milky Way and the bush

This shot I made on the day of my birthday in 2012 in Crete. This time nature has made me a great gift. There is an amazing starry sky on this island. Just a little drive from the built-up area and you are getting the opportunity to watch a magnificent starry sky with many galaxies and nebulae.

Amazing fact:

There are at Least 10 Billion Trillion Stars in the Universe. That’s a very big number.  As the scientists say, there are probably more stars in existence than grains of sand on all of the world’s beaches. Imagine only! If only 1% of those stars had Earth-like planets, the universe would literally be teeming with life.

Château de Chenonceau

One of the most famous and visited castles in France. It is unusual by the fact that it is located entirely on the river. The castle is about 500 years old. Château de Chenonceau has many well preserved interiors, so it is very interesting not only outside but inside as well. Not many people know, but it is privately owned, and thus turned into a museum and is opened to public.

If you like old castles, I strongly recommend you to go by car through the Loire Valley in France. There is a huge number of ancient castles located just 20 minutes drive from each other, or even less. I am sure you will love it!

Amazing Fact:

Château de Chenonceau was preserved from destroying during the French Revolution, only because it was used as a bridge to cross the river, being the only one within many miles.

Maritime Experiential Museum in Singapore

Singapore Aquarium is the largest one in the world, as the information by the cash desk says. Besides the Aquarium there is an excellent Maritime Museum, that tells us about the development of navigation in Asia. Children are just happy to visit this museum!  There are so many different awesome things that you can touch and pull. It is fun place for kids. When I was young I would love to visit such a museum.

By the way! This shot was made on the last day of the year 2012.

Amazing fact:

New York City (786 sq km) is slightly larger than Singapore and Tokyo (2,187 sq km) is three times bigger.

The View of the Eiffel Tower from the park

To take a photo of a sight which was previously captured by millions before is a big challenge for me. We all have seen the Eiffel Tower: the real one, on the photo, on TV or even in Las Vegas! What is the sense of any next photo of the Eiffel Tower taken from the common position? So for me it was much more important to take a photo of it in an unusual way. Spending some time on walking around the tower I was able to make this shot.

Amazing Fact:

Millions of people climb the Eiffel Tower every year. And it has had over 200 million unique visitors since its opening. By the way, the Eiffel Tower has 2,500,000 rivets in it.

Kuala Lumpur from the top

This shot was made from one of the Petronas Twin Towers – the symbol of the city and Malaysia in general. There is a stunning view of the city from the top floor of the tower. The height of this floor is about 375 meters. A total height of the building is 452 m. As yet, these twin towers are the highest ones in the world.

The climate of Kuala Lumpur is very hot, humid and extremely changeable. Just about half an hour after this shot was taken a strong tropical downpour hit the city.

Amazing Fact

“Kuala Lumpur” means “muddy confluence” in Malay language.
